One of the first things a new machine tool owner wants to do is clean and lubricate their new toy. The second thing he or she will find out is that their are as many opinions about what is the best (or proper) lubricant for their machine; nearly all the machinists I have spoken to have their own preferences, but nearly all agree that Mobil lubricants are right up there at the top of their lists.The third thing they will learn is that most of these lubricants are only available in quantities that will cost a fortune. Tooling for the machines is expensive enough, lubricating it shouldn’t have to be expensive, too. One thing is for sure: Using the wrong oil, or NO OIL is VERY expensive!
