A number of guys have asked me for advice on threading, and its not the type thing you can explain to anybody in an Email. I fumble through it myself, and it occurred to me that I’ve never really sat down and read the factory literature on threading, so I went to email@example.com and had a look. The owner Jim B. was good enough to allow their use here, in the interest of sharing information. Dave Smith had uploaded a couple of files that are the definitive work on threading. This is the 1936 South Bend Lathe bulletin on “How to Cut Screw Threads” It is in two parts in PDF format.
I hope this will be as much help to you as it was to me. Thanks again to Jim and Dave for making these files available to the home shop machinists community.
