Most of our products are geared towards the Home Shop Machinist, Automobile Restorer, Gunsmith, and the guy who just doesn’t know when to leave well-enough alone.

Thank you for visiting Blue Chip Machine Shop. We’re a little bit different than most people’s idea of a “traditional” machine shop. My name is Mick Finch, and I am the guy who sweeps the floors around here. We spend as much time improving, rebuilding, and modifying our machines as we do on actual “work”. When we come across materials or supplies that make fabrication, machining, welding, and related jobs easier, we will list them for sale here. Look for hard to find stuff here, as well as routine supplies, and current and vintage technical information.

The shop’s origin is back in the days before we knew what the internet was. I was a young transmission re-builder. I needed a specialized bushing driver that hadn’t been invented yet. I reasoned that I could make exactly what I needed, so I bought an aging South Bend 13″ lathe and made my own. My wife was not too thrilled that I spent in the neighborhood of $3000 to make one tool, but I knew I was onto something. Pretty soon copies of that tool were in all the shops in town. That simple tool cost far less than the super slick, high dollar tools that were designed to do many jobs “pretty well”. It was designed to do one job, the right way, and built to last.

Over the years, as things progressed, new equipment and products were added (mostly specialized transmission tools). Most of the products you will find here will be made from economical materials, so we can keep the cost down. We won’t build anything out of Chinese Tin Foil, but we won’t use Titanium if Cold Rolled Steel will do the job.

Most of our products are geared towards the Home Shop Machinist, Automobile Restorer, Gunsmith, and the guy who just doesn’t know when to leave well-enough alone. On occasion you might find some unusual items here that don’t seem to fit. If we get a deal on 10,000 left handed nails, or a pallet of size 13 cold weather boots, we’ll try to pass the deal along to you. Mostly, you’ll find stuff to make your job easier ; Tools for the professional, machine tool parts and maintenance supplies, and some good old reference material. There’s no sense owning a tool you don’t know how to use, Right? We’ll try to help pass along any information we feel might be helpful.

Customer support is our primary concern. Without your business, we cease to exist. We will do our utmost to satisfy you. All orders will be shipped promptly (usually next day), and there are no hidden shipping and handling charges. Most of our shipments will go out by way of the United States Postal Service, because they provide our shipping supplies to us for FREE, and we pass the savings on to you. All shipments go out AT COST.

Please feel free to contact me with suggestions, gripes, or just to say “Hello”. We’re very interested in input from our customers as to how we can improve the site, and what products and services you might need.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
